Welcome to the Safety Manual for Investigating Environmental Stories!
The Manual was created by AJI Indonesia in collaboration with International Media Support (IMS) in order to enhance journalists' and media professionals' understanding of the potential risk they may encounter, while simultaneously promoting awareness of personal safety.
The purpose of this Safety Manual is to assess the level of preparedness among journalists and media professionals during the pre-production, production, and post-production stages when engaging in investigative reporting on environmental crimes.
In addition to comprehending the potential risk that may arise, the manuals can assist journalists and media organizations in understanding the measures they can take to mitigate the escalation of impact in the event of any threats or violations that may occur.
By accessing this manual, Journalists will have the opportunity to get practical experience in ensuring the adequacy of their preparation by assessing the self-risk assessment. Journalists will be given a situational awareness that may occur during the news production process. Last and also essential, we want to ensure that the safety of journalists is protected even after the news has been released. Journalists will not only become more aware of the potential risks that may arise after the news is published, but they will also be provided with options for addressing and mitigating these risks should they occur.
In order to further enhance Journalists' awareness of the challenges associated with reporting on environmental issues, this module also provides the actual experiences of environmental journalists across the globe as they cover environmental crimes.
Furthermore, we also include the reference from other media organizations as part of the development of this Safety Manual.
